To predict accurately free-flight motion of rocket near earth (or other oblate body) for trajectory design and guidance, gravitational effect of equatorial bulge must be accounted for; this can be done by solving equations of motion, based on gravitational potential model developed by J. P.Vinti; analysis is modified considerably to obtain solution suited to free-flight segments of ascent to satellite orbit, satellite de-orbit, ballistic missile, and spacecraft skip re-entry trajectories.
