Tire work described is part of vehicle dynamics studies at Ford Motor Co, directed toward analyzing general vehicle handling characteristics; in overall dynamics of vehicle, tire cornering force plays dominant role; description of test facility and testing carried out; it is shown that reasonably accurate predictions of tire cornering performance on road may be obtained within large range of variables by suitable laboratory test methods and by application of equations derived from simplified model of tire.
