Conventionally, tires are made with cross-bias cases; in Europe, there is increasing interest in other constructions that enable vibration characteristics to be chosen to suit vibration transmission characteristics of vehicle; 4 methods enable estimates of potential tread wear resistance to be made namely, measurement of work done by laterally directed ground forces during cornering, measurements of breaker edgewise stiffness and casing sideway stiffness on tires, measurement of beam stiffness of breaker slabs, and theoretical calculation of breaker stiffness values.
