Concern is primarily with arrangement of a-c systems, which are usually chosen for turbine powdered plants; exceptions are that certain specialized ships such as ice breakers, dredges, submarines, etc, find it advantageous to use d-c propulsion motors; range is from large passenger liners and aircraft carriers to hydrofoils and dredges; hypothetical steam turbine-electric plant, for conventional or nuclear warship, is described; gas turbine-electric possibilities are also considered.
