First phase of joint United Kingdom Atomic Energy Authority and industry program has narrowed reactor choice to 2 designs -- Vulcain, mixed moderator, pressurized water reactor which is being jointly developed by UKAEA and Belgo-Nucleaire consortium, and Integral Boiling Reactor (IBR), which is UKAEA design suitable for indirect or direct cycle operation; both are packaged units, and would be lifted in and out of ship; types of ship envisaged are tanker up to 65,000 tons dw, dry or refrigerated cargo vessel, and 30,000-ton passenger liner; bulk of information given is on reactor design; diagrams show reactor design and probable location in ship.
