Notes presented are intended to apply especially to oil tankers of above 16,000 tons dw, but are also, to large extent, valid for other sizes and classes of ships; standards are sought by shipbuilders which define permissible extent of internal laminations, acceptable standard of surface roughness and laminations, and degree of scale removal implied by expression "free of"; welding standards and acceptance levels for ship welds.
