Smaller and special types of craft, mainly shallow draft of relatively light scantling, whose spheres of operation are on rivers and lakes are dealt with; ultimate destination has considerable bearing upon method of construction and delivery, taking into consideration facilities available if it is to be supplied in parts for re-erection or in riveted or welded prefabricated sections for re-assembly and completion at site; examples date from 1875.
