First of 2 reconstructions, which have transformed Cunard liners Saxonia and Ivernia into dual purpose Atlantic liners and cruise ships Carmania and Franconia, was completed on Apr 1st by John Brown and Co (Clydebank) Ltd; conversion has entailed elimination of 3 after hatches and holds, and rebuilding of entire after superstructure to make way for new Lido deck, swimming pool and new night club, alterations to public rooms, new staterooms, redecoration, and new lighting; Carmania can carry 117 first class and 740 tourist class passengers.
