Aspects which have engaged attention of Brit Shipbldg Research Assn (now Brit Ship Research Assn) over past 17 yr, based mainly on work at Nat Phys Laboratory; topics are noise in machinery and passenger spaces of cross-channel diesel vessels, laboratory measurements on sound insulation values of treatments applied to bulkheads or exterior surfaces of engine room casings, mechanism of noise transmission in ships fitted with gas turbine electric and free piston gas generators, sound insulation between cabins.
