Gotaverken's new yard at Arendal has been constructed to enable firm to handle ships up to 150,000 tons; it was planned to give what is virtually flow production of type more usually associated with production of motor cars; features are mechanized transport, high degree of automation, large size plates, welding of sections of up to 300 tons to be joined together to hull parts, and fitting of machinery and equipment concurrently with building of hull.
