Maximum payload is required for given vehicle; in variation problem, equations of movement of space vehicles occur as secondary condition; further conditions enter problem by technical limitations of propulsion; limiting cases of unbounded and constant thrust are considered; in both cases distinction must be made between flights with given time of takeoff in synodic year and those with open time of takeoff; time will be chosen so that payload becomes maximum.
