ASSET research re-entry vehicle, built by McDonnell, is winged glide vehicle utilizing uniform geometric shapes and scheduled to be flight tested to obtain aerothermodynamic and elastic environmental test data at various flight angles and speeds; paper considers analytical temperature profile at various portions of vehicle, history and stability testing of thermocouples, their coatings, manufacturing procedure for sensors, and problem areas encountered; materials selected are Mo, Cb and Pt-20% Rh sheaths, Mg and Be oxide insulation, and W-5% Re vs W-26% Re and Pt vs Pt-10% Rh thermoelements.
