Review of state of art shows that with technology sound and growing, and units built for missions ranging from 120 days to 5 yr, designer should plan appropriate space application of isotopic systems; characteristics of several isotopic power systems are tabulated; SNAP program and systems and some prototype developments; research and development efforts in isotopic fuels technology, isotope production and processing capability, thermoelectric power conversion technology, thermionic power conversion technology and aerospace nuclear safety technology.
