Use of tension structure concept for flexible wings offers means of recovering and landing spacecraft; other uses include cargo towing and dropping, rocket booster recovery, power reconnaissance drone, and manned utility vehicle; data presented summarize recent aerodynamic information obtained at Langley Research Center; state of art with regard to lift-drag ratio with emphasis on fundamental factors affecting performance, stability, and control of parawing configurations; results of related studies and some comparisons with conventional wing theory.
