Mercury spacecraft is tracked through its launch, orbit, and recovery phases by world-wide network of tracking stations; thorough testing of ground acquisition and radar tracking equipment, prior to spacecraft flights, was accomplished economically with boresight camera techniques, using DC-3 and C-54 aircraft equipped to simulate orbiting spacecraft; information is given on development of test program, photographic equipment, problems and limitations, and aircraft equipment.
