Effort by shipbuilding, engineering and allied concerns on lower Clyde has resulted in replica of Henry Bell's steamship of 1812, Comet; hull is of carvel construction; keel, hog, stern and sternpost are of oak as are all deck beams; iron fastenings are used throughout; length on deck 44 ft 11 in., on waterline 42 ft 6 in., breadth over paddle boxes 15 ft 9 1/2 in., depth (underside of keel to top of deck at side) 6 ft 4 in., draft 3 ft 9 in., displacement 21.5 tons; coal fired boiler working at 10 psi supplies single cylinder engine; plans of engine.
