Following commissioning at Barrow-in-Furness in mid-April, first British nuclear submarine, HMS Dreadnought, has been undergoing extensive trials; it is suggested that in number of respects vessel is superior to contemporary American nuclear submarines of similar design, particularly in sonar underwater detection system; speed is in excess of 25 knots submerged and diving depth is better than 400 ft; armament at present includes variety of homing torpedoes.
