Tugs Palar and Pennar were constructed by Hongkong and Whampoa Dock Co as berthing tugs to handle vessels of up to 20,000 tons load displacement; on trials free running speed was 10.30 knots, and static bollard pull 12.85 tons; length oa 88 ft 3 in., breadth molded 27 ft, depth molded 13 ft 1 in., mean draft 10 ft; 8-cyl MAN type engine has continuous tropical rating of 675 bhp at 400 rpm.
