Simpson built for Baltimore and Ohio Railroad Co by RTC Shipbuilding Corp for towing car floats; original Bowes railroad tug design has been modified by adding two feet to height of pilothouse to improve visibility; propulsion is by 10-cyl 1600 hp Fairbanks, Morse opposed piston diesel, operating at 720 rpm.
