Most of present work is going on at l'Office National d'Etudes et de Recherches Aerospatiales (ONERA), where traveling-wave accelerators, rail-type plasma gun, and mercury-ion thrusters have been studied since 1961 with special attention to better understanding of fundamental MFD (Magneto-Fluid-Dynamics) processes; recent advances in solar-cell technology open new prospect to solar-electric propulsion applications in near future.
