Analytical models of air breathing rocket concepts such as ejector ramjet (ERJ) and shrouded rocket (SR) are presented, whereby performance of these propulsion systems can be estimated and compared along various flight trajectories; in SR, mixing and burning occur simultaneously, whereas in ERJ afterburning is employed after secondary and primary mass flows have been mixed and diffused to low subsonic mach number; sea-level state and subsonic performance of ERJ was computed considering sharp-lipped supersonic inlet; results show that ERJ and SR offer significant improvement in specific impulse in Mach number 1-5 regime as compared to LOX rocket; ejector ramjet offers higher performance potential than ducted rocket.
