Service life expectancy of grain is estimated by calculating age at which grain structural margin of safety becomes zero; stiffness and strength data were obtained from four aged operational motors; stress analyses of grain were made which yielded margin of safety at each motor age; this was then extrapolated to zero to estimate service life; using Monte Carlo simulation parameters affecting margin of safety (propellant stiffness, propellant strength, case stiffness, and internal pressure) were randomly selected; result was probability distribution of margin of safety which was extrapolated to zero for service life prediction.
