Technique for determining height and horizontal range-time histories of flight of sounding rocket; two stable oscillators operating at same frequency are employed; one is carried in rocket and its output is telemetered to ground; other is used as ground-based reference located at telemetry receiving station at launch site; method is of interest for use at remote launching sites where normal range tracking facilities do not exist; results of trials of method with Black Brant II rockets launched at Churchill Research Range are presented indicating that accuracy of plus or minus 1 km for apogee height can be obtained.
