Perturbing effects on orbit are studied by examining progression of simplified mathematical models; first-order variation of radial distance is generated for each model to exhibit basic phenomenon as well as seasonal and shadow effects; techniques employed were found to be useful for purpose of understanding mechanics of perturbing effect and are in surprisingly good agreement with more sophisticated methods; however, extensions to noncoplanar conditions or developments of higher accuracy become cumbersome (although possible) and are not recommended.
