Synchronous gravity-stabilized advanced technology satellite (ATS) is described; it is designed to be despun by two-stage yo-yo in combination with nutation damper; unique advantage of ATS despin mechanism arises from use of two-stage yo-yo system in which off-axis rate errors of first stage, starting from 100 rpm, are damped out by nutation damper prior to releasing second-stage yo-yo, starting from 10 rpm.
