In Great Britain, where coverage is substantial and weather prediction service efficient, accuracy of 90% is claimed for daily forecast; long-range forecasting, which claims marginal accuracy of about 55% is based entirely on statistics for previous years; value and use of weather satellites, in particular ESSA and Nimbus satellites, which supply 50 ground-stations throughout world with pictures; project and purpose of Applications Technology Satellites, experiments planned, launch vehicles under consideration, and advanced instrumentation.
