Meteorological satellite Nimbus I was launched in Aug 1964 and Nimbus II in May 1966; third spacecraft, incorporating advanced sensors, is now in final spacecraft-system test phase preparatory to launch in 1968; fourth spacecraft, under development, is scheduled for launch in early 1970; review of progress made, flight accomplishments and limitations of first two missions, current plans for follow-on missions, and some technological problems and new requirements that these missions pose to designers of electromechanical and electronic subsystems are reported.
