Wind tunnel smoke tests with small helicopter rotor; apparatus includes specially developed hot wire smoke generator; flow pattern in neighborhood of rotor in vortex ring state described by introducing spread of slipstream, causing airbody around rotor; by considering proportions of this airbody, unpleasant behavior of helicopters in partial power-off descent at low forward speed can be more clearly understood.
