Eight papers presented at International Congress of Subsonic Aeronautics Apr 1967 form major sources from which material presented was taken; use of helicopters, VTOL aircraft, evolution of ground effect machines, problems encountered with deep stall by tail-mounted jet aircraft are posing demands that state of subsonic art, suspended in 1950, is unequipped to meet; techniques for determining potential flow and methods for defining boundary-layer characteristics are unsatisfactory once substantial separation has occurred; flow-separation characteristics at high angles of attack and four regimes, namely, trailing-edge separation, thick-section bubble, short and long-bubble separation are areas of research.
