Field failure rates for typical general aviation radios are examined and compared to airline experience; general aviation compares favorably in VHF Nav/Com and instrument landing components, but is short of airline experience for pulse equipment; general aviation data were derived from three sources and represent failures experienced on equipment operated for 1 yr; some suggestions are made to improve MTBF (mean time between failures) and reliability of equipment.
