Concept and technique for solving problems associated with prediction and control of flight component failures which are attributed to contamination of power transmission fluid are presented; systems and applications considered are hydraulic type flight control servo actuators as used on B-58 Bomber, Century series type fighter aircraft, missiles, etc; technique assumes that these failures are probabilistic; mathematical models are established and comparisons made between calculated and measured values of contamination in system to determine degree of acceptability of fluid.
