Ground control and guidance method under investigation at Royal Aeronautical Establishment is ground-based secondary radar tracking system in which aircraft range, azimuth and elevation, with respect to given location on ground, are measured and compared with precalculated flight path; deviations from computed profile are then transmitted to aircraft where they are converted to instrument or autopilot commands; experimental guidance system for laboratory evaluation during 1968 and its basic principles of radar interferometry are described together with elements of system.
