Auxiliary power systems considered consist of power producing components, which include auxiliary power unit (APU), APU starting system, engine starter accessory gearbox, driven accessories and power distribution systems to interconnect these components; candidate systems for V/STOL fighter are identified and analyzed for their takeoff gross weight penalty to aircraft for missions requiring both short- and long-time aircraft standby periods; components of various systems are evaluated as to their projected efficiency, weight, and size for use in analysis; recommended reference system is selected as basis for optimized system design.
