Progress report and technical notes on Britten-Norman Islander light aircraft; factory at Bembridge is nearly complete and production schedule planned is presented; company sees market for up to 1000 Islanders over next 10 yr; entire airframe is made from zinc-free L72 light alloy, designed to safe-life, fatigue-free principles; fuselage is built in three sections -- nose and windscreen frame, parallel cabin section, and tailcone including baggage bay and tailplane pickups; cutaway drawing depicts 10-seater version of production aircraft; major changes since prototype are installation of 260-hp Lycoming O-540-E engine in place of 210-hp Continental 10-360 and wing of increased span with completely revised structural arrangement.
