Comment on loading in lower half-length of building berths in relation to measurements made during launch of four tankers at two shipyards; standard method used by shipyards for estimating way loading is reviewed and magnitudes of loading are related to those derived from pressure capsules installed beneath standing ways; some measurements made in concrete-encased rolled steel joists at lower end of new berth are compared with distribution for idealized case of beam.
