Adaptation of theory of A.Betz (1919) to propeller class consisting of all those composed of finite number of elementary propellers which have common mean direction of advance and equal periods in time and length; utilizing Voith-Schneider propeller as typical representative, free vorticity left behind by optimum propeller is characterized; theory is three dimensional, hence tip effects are included.
