Warning system, developed by Holley Carburetor Co, incorporates humidity transducing elements for detecting frost or ice conditions before they form during presence of high humidity and low deck temperatures, and separate sensors for sensing ice formations resulting from precipitation; de-icing system can be automatically initiated before frost forms; system is used successfully by Michigan Department of State Highways on Flint River Bridge; similar design is under evaluation for airport runways, and system capable of snow storm prediction is under development.
