Medical tests carried out at School of Aerospace Medicine, Brooks U S Air Force Base, Tex, to select astronaut candidates and 18-mo training program at Manned Spacecraft Center in Houston, Tex; there are 10 courses offered, some of them devoted to background information concerning overall space program, others offered to familiarize candidate with various NASA projects and space flight operations; basic courses are astronomy, physics of upper atmosphere, flight mechanics, meteorology, rocket propulsion, medical aspects of space flight, and, for those destined for lunar landing missions, most extensive course, geology.
