Guidance problem associated with separation of lander vehicles from space vehicle on flyby (or preorbit) trajectory, so as to land at specified locations on Mars; geometry of problem is presented, including effects of landing site location and restrictions in allowable entry angle and propulsive energy; surface dispersion footprints are based on error analysis; effects of errors in imparted velocity increment are evaluated for landing sites in and out of plane of approach trajectory.
