Navigational phase of problem of trans-stellar space flight lends itself to practical solution; paper considers "problem of observables," and navigational schemes, and touches upon instrumentation; three-phase development of navigational concepts is employed, first yielding formulation based upon negligible spacecraft velocities, second approach capable of handling large but nonrelativistic velocities, and last solution for general problem with velocities up into relativistic range; preliminary design for hyperaccuracy space sextant, responsive to needs of defined program, is included.
