Purpose of paper is to reveal innovation of District of Columbia Traffic Engineering Dept to solve problem of pedestrian control at signalized intersections, and to indicate how improved pedestrian indications aided vehicular flow as well as contributing to pedestrian safety; three devices to control pedestrians at nonvehicle free crosswalks were tested; data were gathered and statistical analysis was performed to compare effectiveness of each device; discussion of results of mathematical calculations.
