Information on advantages of twin-hull form, model tests resulting in selection of asymmetrical over symmetrical configuration, carriage (amid-ships) and handling of 30-ton rescue submersible (60 tons entrained with water), diver system support, hull arrangement, etc; in preliminary design ASR FY 1967 is of length oa 234 ft 6 in., beam (each hull) 26 ft, draft 19 ft, full load displacement 3200 tons; propulsion is based on geared diesel engines developing 6000 shp with controllable pitch propellers on two shafts; it is noted final version is of longer length to accommodate longer rescue vehicle.
