Tests consisting of 12 self-propelled and 4 maximum drawbar pull were conducted in heavy clay soil to determine performance capabilities of small, two-wheel-drive industrial tractor; minimum soil strength required for 50 passes of vehicle, or vehicle cone index (VCI), was determined from these tests to be 49; VCI computed by revised (March 1967) mobility index formula was 51; one-pass VCI determined from self-propelled and limited maximum-drawbar-pull tests was 27, or 55% of experimental 50-pass VCI.
