Proposed headway model is linear combination of translated exponential function and translated Erlang function; exponential component of distribution describes free headways in traffic stream, and Erlang component describes constrained headways; model proved to be sound descriptor of reported headways for volumes ranging from about 150 vehicles/hr to about 1050 vehicles/hr; however, it should be substantiated and evaluated for wide range of traffic and roadway conditions.
