Results of study performed by Cornell Aeronautical Laboratory, Inc, for U S Department of Housing and Urban Development; new type of transportation system uses dual-mode vehicle, one that can operate on streets and highways in manner of conventional automobile; it can enter exclusive guide-way at discrete access points and be routed and propelled, automatically, to destination station; for operation on street, electrically propelled vehicle draws its power from internally stored energy source (source battery); when on guideway, car takes its power from "third rail"; basic vehicle is small, four-passenger machine, but system can accommodate small bus (10 to 14 passengers) and light delivery trucks.
