Overground railway line was put underground in built-up areas; work consisted essentially of driving two tunnels 121 and 3056 m long, respectively, together with building of large-scale approach structures and rebuilding of railway station; due to extremely irregular subsoil configuration, tunnel work involved various procedures ranging from extensive blasting and powerful mechanical methods to heading in short sections by hand under protection of substantial sheeting; groundwater conditions required large-scale drainage and leak proofing.
