Evaluation of performance and economic characteristics of air cushion craft; role of craft in military and commercial missions, brought about by its unique combination of amphibious capability and high speed, is shown; operational performance characteristics are considered and comparative analysis of air cushion craft and other means of transportation, including conventional aircraft, helicopters, and ships is presented; economic evaluation uses adapted form of standard ATA Method to provide basis for comparison with aircraft direct operating costs; air cushion craft mission inputs reflect experience gained to date in both British Hovercraft operations and Bell SK-5 experience in San Francisco commercial operations.
