Application of hovercraft principle is reviewed covering industrial applications, tracked hovercraft, off-road and over-water hovercraft, together with indication of gap in existing transport panorama; areas which require attention in development of hovercraft are tabulated and problems of sea-keeping are discussed; predicted capability of various sizes of over-water hovercraft for .5 g heave acceleration case is shown graphically; first costs and fuel costs of hovercraft are compared on work capacity basis with other forms of transport vehicle.
