Analysis is presented which shows that, in series-lumped parameter system under certain approximations, overall or modal damping is linear function of local section dampers; it is necessary only that overall damping of system is 10% or less at its resonances; since launch vehicles generally meet this condition, results of this analysis can be used to give insight into relative effectiveness of local damping changes, or it can be used to correct for test stand damping effects on vehicle longitudinal damping tests.
