Statistics on present and projected growth of United States and world oceanborne transportation are presented; growth of United States and world merchant fleets is given in tubular form in terms of number of ships and total deadweight tons; impact of system analysis on oceanborne shipping is considered; future trends for increasing movement of cargo are discussed.
